The Government approved by memorandum on Thursday Romania’s signing the Convention on the International Protection of Adults, adopted in The Hague on 13 January 2000.
According to a Government press release, the Convention lays down rules on jurisdiction, applicable law, recognition and enforcement of adult protection measures in a cross-border context and cooperation mechanisms between the authorities of the contracting states.
“The scope of the Convention on the International Protection of Adults is the protection, in situations of an international nature, of adults who are unable to protect their interests because of deficiencies or insufficient personal capacity. Thus, the Ministry of Justice is designated as the central authority for receiving and fulfilling requests under the Convention, and the Bucharest Court will issue the certificates provided for therein,” the press release reads.
